Self Doubt Kills Progress

When consistency trumps almost all else when it comes to making progress towards a goal, it becomes clear that anything that hampers consistency is a major limiting factor in making progress.

Self doubt, importer syndrome, negative thoughts, intrusive thoughts, negative self talk.

These uncomfortable thoughts and feelings hamper progress in pretty much all of us. My clients have told me they experience them, and I personally do.

In fact, being brutally honest with you, I am having them right now as we speak. They say to quit because I feel stupid making a silly video. Because I am ugly and not a fitfluencer or videographer. I am far from eloquent on camera, and I waffle. And I should really take my blog down, because after all, who cares? I should take an easy path, get a comfortable job that doesn’t challenge me.

…HITS DELETE… wonders to fridge to find a tasty morsel and jumps on Indeed to search for comfortable job.

WOAH! Time to reframe this before I throw in the towel.

This battle I have every day. And every day I have to decide to to follow my gut feeling, my values, my vision and my belief that I am put on this planet to help others in my unique way.

My values of being in control of my time and not some arbitrary ‘office hours’ set by someone else who doesn’t even care.

Creativity is important to me.

And knowing some of the meaningful ways I am helping my clients is important to me.

I have tried to throw in the towel a few times.

I have ‘quit the health and fitness industry’ and ‘quit teaching’ in order to work in a supermarket, in a factory, and labouring.

I have tried these, and while they are right for the right person, they are not right for me. The conversation goes as described above, and so I shirk my responsibilities, and hide in the safely of anonymity and security of the job.

But then the fire emerges, and I know I have to do it. I have to put skin in the game and put my message ‘out there’. Because I am called to help others, emparting my lessons and experience with them.

Having the ability to tune into self doubt, uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, and make an empowered decision not to take action away from them (i.e. hide), and to step up and take action towards my values is a powerful discovery for me personally.

It is not always easy. But it has helped me stay consistent in areas that I have personal goals – health, fitness, career etc.

So, does self doubt ruin your progress in the areas of your health, fitness, career and relationships?

In my experience these areas are all linked, and stress and self doubt will have a knock on effect in my nutrition and health with stress eating for example – hiding from my uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.

The exciting news is that I have discovered a mindset trick to help make better choices that are supportive of my goals. And when consistency is one of the most important elements of success, for me, this shift in thinking has been a game changer.

Watch the video to discover how to manage negative thoughts and feelings – we all get these – and how to become empowered to take action towards what matters to you, your values, and move towards your goals.

Of course as always, if you have any questions please get in touch and I will be happy to help. And just so you know, I believe you can achieve success in your health, fitness, career and relationships in a way that is unique to you.

So I’ve created the comprehensive 7 step New Leader Game Plan that helps professional men who lack confidence in their health, to become the new leaders of their health and their life.
